Thomas William Iddison, watchmaker, of Earby. was summoned for persistent cruelty his wife, Dorothy lddison. Mr. W. Thompson, solicitor, Skipton, defended. The wife said defendant had never been able to keep himself since she knew him, and he often went drinking for a fortnight at a stretch, and she was tired of his conduct. In cross-examination certain facts reflecting on the complainant were elicited. Complainant said that although the defendant had not of late actually struck her, he had threatened to do so, and he had used her and the rest of the family cruelly. She now asked for an order, and declared that if she did not get it she would not live with defendant another day. The Bench decided that persistent cruelty had not been proved, and the case would be dismissed. on 21 June 1899.20
